What type of disease affects my lawn?

A disease occurs when a pathogen infects the grass blades and disrupts growth and appearance. This could eventually infect your whole lawn over time. Diseases usually occur in your lawn when the weather reaches a high threshold in temperature and humidity. Summer is the season when you usually see the damage of it.

Common turf diseases on Long Island are:

  • Dollar Spot
  • Leaf Spot
  • Red Thread
  • Summer/Brown Patch
  • Anthracnose

With our knowledge and experience of over 35+ years, we have the ability to diagnose if any one of these diseases is present on your lawn. We will also be able to target/treat the disease with the best commercial fungicides at the proper time so it doesn’t spread and take over your whole lawn.

What kind of insects could attack my lawn?

There are many species of insects crawling around on and under your lawn. However, there are three types of insects that have the capability of destroying lawns on Long Island year after year.

  • Grubs
  • Chinch Bugs
  • Sod Webworms

These insects start attacking around late Spring and will keep feeding on your lawn throughout late Fall. Finding them can be difficult and you may even need a magnifying lens (which we carry with us) to see them. The timing of the application is critical as you don’t want the infestation to spread further throughout your lawn.

Identifying The Problem!

Don’t be fooled to think your brown lawn means that you have a disease or are being attacked by insects. Your lawn can die for many reasons; not all of which are caused by diseases or insects. Many environmental stresses may mimic diseases and insect damage, such as nutritional deficiencies, drought, or even having your lawn cut too short.

Since John & Eric Kirsch have been in business for over 35 years and are NYSDEC Certified Applicators, we can identify what sort of problems your lawn is experiencing. We also know which commercial products and methods of application will work the best and give you the results you deserve!
