Core aeration and seeding are highly effective methods that can easily achieve a lush and thick lawn. The remarkable results are outstanding, worth the effort, and will undoubtedly enhance the appearance of any lawn.
Core Aeration
Aeration is the process of removing thousands of small cores of soil 1″ to 3″ in length from your lawn. After about two weeks of watering, these cores will then “melt” back into the lawn. The holes created by aeration will help allow:
- Breaking down the thatch layer.
- Relieve the pressure from compacted soil.
- Creating pockets for new roots and grass to grow.
- Channeling oxygen, water, and fertilizer to get into the root zone.
Seeding
When’s the best time to seed?
The best time to seed is in the Fall due to the warm temperatures throughout the day and cooler temps during the night. The second best time to seed is Spring; however, the grass will compete with the germinating weeds as well. It is not recommended to seed in the summertime due to the high heat and humidity on Long Island.
What type of seed should I plant?
If you need to fill in bare areas or completely renovate your lawn, there are a variety of grasses to choose from. Different grasses are better suited to certain conditions, such as shady areas under trees, high-traffic areas by driveways, or areas where kids and dogs play. Green Supreme can provide expert guidance on the best seeds to plant in specific areas of your lawn
You will need to water seeded areas frequently if you want to see good results.
